Sculptor and designer
Théophile de Bascher, a 2023 graduate of ENSAD in Paris, centers his practice on working with stone, wood, and ceramics. His focus lies in the manual shaping of materials, the learning of gestures, and the versatility inherent to the sculptor’s craft. He adapts his drawing to the volume of raw materials, merging design with sculpture. The rigorous apprenticeship of these various techniques places the emphasis in his work on reviving a more mindful and sustainable form of production—one that reconnects us with the objects of our daily lives.
Designer and Artist
Marlène Huissoud grew up in the French Alps, surrounded by nature and raised by beekeeper parents who instilled in her a deep appreciation for insects. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and then at Central Saint Martins in London, the young designer chose to explore the creative potential of insects and their byproducts—focusing her research on two in particular: the bee, which produces an extraordinary biodegradable natural resin called propolis, and the silkworm, whose cocoon offers rich design possibilities. Her work questions our impact on the planet and the insect world. She strongly believes in the power of concept and the importance of the creative process. Pedagogy and responsibility are at the heart of her approach, as she consciously crafts sculptural and functional pieces from natural resources—challenging the role of Design and Art in today’s society and their modes of consumption. In 2024, she received the Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris for her commitment and career. She was a finalist for the Liliane Bettencourt Prize for the Intelligence of the Hand in both 2022 and 2023. In 2020, she won the Wood Awards for her beehive installation Beehave, created for the Science Museum in London. Listed in the Top 70 design stars by the UK Design Council, she was named Artist of the Year in 2018 for her experimental work by the AI Global Excellence Award. She also received the AI Business Excellence Award – Most Innovative Design Studio London in 2018, was nominated by the Arts Foundation UK for the Material Innovation Award in 2016, won the Make Me! Design Prize in 2015, and was a finalist at the Design Parade in Villa Noailles that same year.
