Maison Matisse: “Feedback on our first boutique has been very positive”

Maison&Objet In the City - 23-28 Mar. 2022 - Maison Matisse ©DR

Founded in 2019 by the painter’s family, Maison Matisse works with major designers, who interpret the artist’s work as a celebration of fine craft.

What motivated you to participate in In The City?

Eliana di Modica, Managing Director of Maison Matisse:
Maison&Objet is a very important event each year, particularly in view of this long and difficult period we’ve had. We were opening our first showroom at 38 rue du Bac in Saint-Germain des Prés. It was an essential occasion for us and the perfect opportunity to present it to the media and to industry professionals. We really wanted to bring everyone together and exchange ideas.

What did you present on this occasion?

EdM: It was the first time we were able to present all our collections within a setting that was our very own and that reflects this painter’s artistic world. It’s warm, welcoming and elegant. We reproduced the atmosphere of a family apartment, matching the brand’s history, since it was founded by a family. The first two collections, La Musique (Music) and Intérieur aux aubergines (Interior with eggplants) were inspired by two famous paintings by Matisse, with the first collection by Marta Bakowksy and the second by Cristina Celestino. There are also pieces designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Alessandro Mendini and Jaime Hayon.

How did these six days go for you?

EdM: We made a special presentation to the media on Thursday, with a cocktail party that evening. We received very positive feedback about the boutique. We were pleased to notice that many international professionals made the effort to travel here, notably from the U.K. and the U.S. In the following days, we had visits from many interior designers.

How do you feel about this initiative overall?

We feel very good! The “offsite” format in town was perfect for us, because it meant that we were able to host professionals within our own setting, reflecting our universe. We’re ready to sign up for the next one.
