Paris: 15 must-see creative places

Paris Design Week 2022 - #PDW22 - 15 must-see creative places - 15 adresses créatives à découvrir absolument

From September 8-17, all of Paris will resonate with Paris Design Week. It will offer a chance to explore the most inspiring places in the capital. Follow our guide.

Isabelle Stanislas at the Hôtel de Sully
It’s worth a visit! During Paris Design Week, the Hôtel de Sully, the sumptuous residence built under the reign of Louis XIII, will be the scene of a multisensory experience that goes well beyond real life. The staging envisioned and designed by French architect Isabelle Stanislas – to whom we owe the renovation of the reception rooms of the Elysée Palace – will invite visitors to explore the nuances between vision and perception. On-site furnishings and “Architectural follies” will add yet another dimension to the journey, somewhere between reality and NFTs.

Fripon
Spotted on Top Chef, the very talented Pauline Séné has taken up residence on the hills of Ménilmontant, in this boutique bistro with a mischievous name. It must be said that this young woman’s cuisine is indeed truly bold. With her penchant for fish and vegetables, she doesn’t hesitate to enhance her dishes with condiments, sauces, or spices that she conceals with little touches here and there. Meals are served on tablecloths, in a marbled setting created by Hauvette & Madani.

Fondation Le Corbusier
Follow the traces of Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, AKA Le Corbusier. First stop: the end of a discreet cul-de-sac in the 16th arrondissement, where the La Maison La Roche lies hidden. In September, this architectural jewel will host a collection of furniture and objects created by designer Anthony Guerrée and produced by M éditions. These are unique pieces crafted from fragments of marble that are loosely inspired by the architecture of Antiquity. Two metro stations, further along, you’ll find another remarkable work by Le Corbusier: the Molitor building, the first-ever glass residential building in history, which will host his apartment/workshop. This 240 m2 duplex located on the two top floors will be opening its doors for small-group visits.
“Fragments” exhibition, from September 8-28, 2022, at Maison La Roche, 10, impasse du Docteur Blanche, 16th arrondissement, Paris. Entrance at 55 rue du Docteur Blanche.
Le Corbusier’s apartment/workshop, 24, rue Nungesser et Coli, 16th arrondissement, Paris. Open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays only.

La Table de Colette
Our plates are going green. Located in the Latin Quarter, just a step away from the Panthéon, La Table de Colette proudly proclaims its commitment to the environment. Breton chef Josselin Marie heads up the first-ever sustainable, carbon-neutral gastronomic restaurant in France. It’s a real activist approach, reflected in the surprise menus in 3, 5, or 7 courses that feature the lowest carbon footprint possible. Here, veggies are in the spotlight, ingredients are local and seasonal, nothing is wasted, and everything is transformed. And the bonus? This restaurant features a lush secret terrace.

Bœuf sur le toit
From Ernest Hemingway and Picasso to Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, the Bœuf sur le Toit witnessed the cream of the Parisian elite in the Roaring Twenties pass through its doors. One hundred years after its opening, this iconic restaurant/cabaret hasn’t aged a bit, thanks to its facelift from virtuoso Alexis Mabille. This Parisian institution has unveiled a flamboyant Art Deco look: inlaid wood, mirrors, velvet, and touches of gold. In terms of the menu, chef Jean-Pierre Vigato pays tribute to great classics from Parisian brasseries (leeks in vinaigrette, hachis Parmentier, profiteroles). Let’s get this party started!

La Plume
It’s one of the most talked-about restaurants in town. Perched atop the former Louvre Postal Annex, La Plume is the panoramic restaurant at the Madame Rêve Hotel. Adorned with the finest materials (wood, marble, gilt, and leather), this spectacular dining room that looks like a vintage liner seems to dance atop the roofs of Paris. In the kitchen, chef Benjamin Six creates cutting-edge dishes with Japanese-style accents (homemade gyoza, Wagyu beef tataki, salmon tempura). Remember to book your table!

Halle aux Grains
The Bourse du Commerce, a new temple to contemporary art envisioned by François Pinault, designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, and furnished by the Bouroullec brothers, also hosts the restaurant/café from the Bras chefs. For this Parisian location, Michel, the father, and Sébastien, the son, have chosen to pay tribute to the history of this space, which was a wheat market in the 18th century. Grains, pulses, sprouts, and germinated seeds are prepared majestically. You can also stop by in the afternoon for an artsy snack.

Pierre Augustin Rose
Behind design producer, Pierre Augustin Rose lies a trio of true lovers of the French decorative arts. Antique dealers Pierre Bénard and Augustin Deleuze have joined forces with Nina Rose, who specializes in artisanal craftwork, to create a high-end decor firm that defies fashions and trends with total elegance. From the rounded sofa to the smoking-room lounge chair, these three kindred spirits are always looking for what’s timeless. New designs will be presented in September at their Parisian HQ. One for all and all for one.

Elle Décoration et the Hôtel de Soubise
To celebrate its 35th anniversary, Elle Décoration looks to the future. This benchmark publication asked several design luminaries to furnish and decorate the metaverse! Tom Dixon, Gilles&Boissier, Guistance Guisset… a total of around fifteen renowned architects and designers took part, with the collaboration of crypto artists. The results of their work will be on display at the Hôtel de Soubise, the headquarters of the National Archives, in the Marais district. The future is now.

September will be synonymous with a getaway, thanks to Laura Gonzalez.
