As part of Paris Design Week Factory, Espace Commines will bring together young participants, talks, and stunning settings that are all ahead of their time.
Paris Design Factory is the heart and soul of Paris Design Week. Within three galleries in the Marais district, the young international design scene will be on show. But that’s not all. The Espace Commines will host the Talks. These discussions will center around subjects of current interest in design that are truly useful for understanding the new rules of the game and addressing today’s burning issues. Led by Intramuros magazine, they will bring together experts to debate very specific subjects such as the challenges of defending intellectual property rights in the social media era or as part of a collective project, or design’s new foothold within local territories and the stakes for local economies, and even the way to move from a brilliant micro-start-up to an industrial scale. Sustainable development, the pooling of the means of production, immersive worlds, the new prospects for graphic design…each expert in their field will offer listeners the chance to take a big leap forward in mastering today’s challenges.
An illustration of these challenges and new ways of doing things will be found within the very same Espace Commines, where you’ll find young design makers and designers selected by curator Emily Marant. Studio Marant, which she founded in 2015, is constantly on the lookout for young designers, whom she loves promoting. Her selection for Paris Design Factory reflects the most innovative names from this emerging generation. And what will the mood be at the 2023 Factory? Joyful! Pop-influenced design, nods to the Memphis movement, and striking colors will go hand-in-hand with responsible, sustainable design. We will also see the marked return of handiwork and limited editions. The theme selected by Paris Design Week will reach its culmination here: Enjoy!
And last (but certainly not least), part of Espace Commines will be dedicated to an exhibition from Studio BrichetZiegler. It’s for a very unique project they’ve been working on for three years now. Designers Caroline Ziegler and Pierre Brichet explore the world of chairs, with ten prototypes. In a spirit of total freedom, they have dissected their shape, techniques, and functions. Metal, wire, leather, bentwood…they have used one material after another throughout their search for something just right, for proper use, scale, and comfort. The result is sculptural and extremely varied. Even in terms of chairs, innovation is still possible. And here’s the proof at Espace Commines for Paris Design Factory.
