The City of Paris is partnering with Paris Design Week on a series of exhibitions. It is also making iconic venues available so you can rediscover public spaces through a design lens.
During Paris Design Week, the city will move to the beat of design. The Mayor’s Office is getting in tune with it all, opening the doors of its institutions for the occasion. And so, the “Design sur cours” circuit will include the Hôtel de Lamoignon, the headquarters of the Historical Library of the City of Paris, in the Marais district. In its courtyard, new concepts in public-space design will be on show, envisioned by Fibois, the wood industry federation, as well as three young designers who will offer their versions of a new type of “Town Square”. The Mayor’s Office is also supporting the “Graphisme à ciel ouvert” initiative, which highlights the close ties between this discipline and the city streets (see the related article). Paris Design Week is also about revealing the full scope of the work supported by the Design, Fashion, and Fine Craft Office of the City of Paris (BDMMA). Each year, this office awards the “Grands Prix de la Création”, recognizing creators in the categories of Revelation and Commitment, as well as Fashion Accessories and Jewelry Accessories. What’s more, its incubator, the Ateliers de Paris host and partner with project leads over two years, to spearhead their development. Through September 27th, the Galerie des Ateliers de Paris will be organizing Terrain de jeux, la création rencontre le sport The field of play: creative design meets the world of sport , an exhibition dedicated to designers’ contributions to sporting activities. The world of sport means outfits, equipment, colors, and sometimes…medals, all designed for movement and performance. The public will be able to discover the projects in this domain from former creatives-in-residence at the Ateliers or the winners of the Grand Prix de la Création, including Les 5.5, Ionna Vautrin, Pauline Deltour, and Inga Sempé…The BDMMA also promotes the work of its protégés within another Parisian institution: the Galeries Lafayette department store. At the Galeries Lafayette Champs-Elysées, first of all, with the “Matter” exhibition, from designers Eve George and Katarzyna Cichy. Eve George is a co-founder of Atelier George, which is devoted to the glass arts. Katarzyna Cichy designs jewelry. Both of them are in residence at the Ateliers de Paris. Here, they’ll be showing their joint work on materials and their relationship with the body. At Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann-Homme, the Luxury space on the third floor will see the installation of an “aisle of expert skill”, where the creations of nine designers will be on display, including work from Elise Foin, Samuel Accoceberry, and Wendy Andreu. Each of their career paths contains a bit of that refined Parisian spirit…
