The duo of interior architects will take part in the AD Course of Decorators at the next edition of Paris Design Week.
They are known for their elegant black and white contrasting interiors, punctuated with precious wood, marble, and metal shards. Since the creation of their studio in 2004, Patrick Gilles and Dorothée Boissier have dressed in their refined style the Six Senses, Four Seasons, and Mandarin Oriental hotels around the world, as well as mansions, Yachts, and shops. Each realization gives rise to the drawing of custom-made furniture, which they now publish in limited series. In September, they will take part in the “AD des décateurs” course, organized by the famous magazine on the occasion of Paris Design Week, to give a spotlight to the innovative design of this exceptional furniture.
Gilles and Boissier met while working at Christian Liaigre, the precursor of this type of edition. "These are furniture that is designed for a function," explains Dorothée Boissier. They are useful, even before being beautiful. Thanks to our profession, we have acquired a great wealth of expression, adapted to all the places, contexts, and emotions we have been confronted with. We can work with many different vocabularies. At Gilles et Boissier, each piece of furniture is given a baptismal name, inspired by mythology. The Styx office, the Mercury showcase, the Eros suspension... We love the classicism of Roman architecture and the great Greek epics. It is with these stories in mind that I name the furniture, finding common characteristics with the characters of antiquity," Dorothée says with amusement. In September, they will unveil their very first book, Interior Design, published by Rizzoli.
Throughout the pages, we will discover nine of their most beautiful creations and the sources of inspiration that guided them each time. They will open for the AD course the big classic apartment of the avenue Montaigne which serves them as a Showroom and there, comes is the surprise! There will be color everywhere: "Acid yellow, Malabar pink, garden green, exotic prints... with us, the color is either not at all, or very bright! "smiles the architect.
The two decorators have just completed the Carl Gustaf hotel for the Barrière group on the island of Saint-Barthélemy. With their heads in the coconut trees, they have brought back that unusual tropical paradise vibe and will introduce new pieces of furniture in rattan, of which the chair «Governor» and the sconce Adeluce, glasses of Murano, a low table in burnt oak, bronze accessories, and a plethora of artists: Alabaster sculptures by artist Gabriel Sobin, ceramics by Claudia Gilles and Kaori Kurihara, photographs by Lara Prozac and Marc Arbeit, sculptures by Mathieu Nab, drawings by Brazilian Felipe Jardim. "We had a great time, we fell in love with the tropical prints of Manuel Canovas. The apartment has been transformed," he says, adding, "It'll be like a vacation in September in Paris when the Indian summer begins.
