CITÉ DE L'ARCHITECTURE ET DU PATRIMOINE

Opéra / Concorde / Étoile

Itinerary: Art

In the Palais de Chaillot across from the Eiffel Tower, the Cité de l’Architecture presents a century of the history of architecture, from the Middle Ages to the present day. The Museum of French Monuments, with its gallery of casting and monumental sculptures created in 1882 by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, is a true voyage through the treasures of heritage and architecture from the doorway of the Chartres cathedral and painted cupola of the Cahors cathedral that here are both reproduced in their actual size. The Gallery of modern and contemporary architecture presents an architectural icon: a life-sized reproduction of an apartment in Le Corbusier’s Cité Radieuse (Radiant City) in Marseille. The temporary exhibitions, workshops for young people, cultural program, Chaillot school and the largest architecture library in Europe all communicate information about the culture of architecture and its urban challenges.
