MIFUKO, which means pocket in Swahili, is a Finnish design company. We work with over 600 women artisans in Kenya. KIONDO baskets combine Finnish design with Kenyan handicraft techniques. We are a member of the WORLD TRADE FAIR ORGANISATION. Mifuko’s kiondo baskets weave together timeless Nordic design and traditional Kenyan handcraft. Each unique item is beautiful, extremely durable and easy to keep clean. The word ‘mifuko’ means pocket in Swahili. Adding to the income in the pockets of skilled Kenyan women was what Minna and Mari, two Finnish designers, had in mind when they founded Mifuko in 2009. The baskets and bags are handmade in Kenya by groups of women in rural villages. Each basket bears the name of the weaver.
